The Making Of

It all starts with an idea, for me it was seeing a series of ‘award wining’ mobile bars in 2018 and thinking that we could do better than that…

So the idea that started to form was based around what we know and love – plane parts. I tried to visualise what a super cool bar could look like, made from plane parts and started to play around with ideas. The key elements were around transport, security, ease of use and of course affordability in terms of making (for us) and using the bar for our clients.

First, it was a case of having to find the right sections of fuselage to match the triple axle trailer we’d bought for the purpose of making into a mobile bar. This was around March 2019.

Finding the right Fuselage Sections;

Transporting Plane Parts is always challenging.

We tend to have sections of fuselage that will help ‘support’ a section of plane or a re-fuelling pod or something equally poorly designed for long motorway journeys.

The Roof is on
The roof of our 747 bar could be deemed as the start of the problems.

We got the roof on, we got it safe and secure.

So at this stage we started looking for electric and mechanical lifting solutions for our bar roof. It was complicated as all 4 corners had to lift at the same time and pace to avoid twisting and snagging.

Let’s be completely frank about this, I’ve made lots of mistakes in business and this was certainly one of them. I employed someone to install a lifting mechanism for the roof, it spiraled on and on and I was eventually given this back having spent £5000.

Back to square one with a totally stripped out mobile bar trailer and no lifting mechanism.

Now is the only point I’m going to be thankful for a long lockdown period in 2020. I got the trailer on to my drive at home and just started the work again. With help from friends and a new team of metal workers we got the lifting mechanism working.

We then added LED lighting to the bar roof.

Lastly I had always had the idea of a small seating area at the back of the bar. I’d planned for 3 bar stools but it was too crammed so we decided 2 was perfect.

At this stage the bar was ready to be tested out and the Covid lockdown restrictions had been eased so we decided a soft launch was needed. We needed to know this thing kept beer cool!

So we handed over our bar to the clients www.wedding-hires.co.uk and headed off for a launch party at the stunning Worzel Weddings overlooking the beautiful South Devon coastline.
